About The Role

We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Associate Director to lead our Analytics and Profit Management function for Wayfair’s Specialty Retail Brands: AllModern, Joss & Main, Birch Lane, and Perigold. This role is pivotal in ensuring the long-term profitability of our business by developing and executing effective pricing and investment strategies while providing centralized leadership of key analytics functions. Based in our Boston office, you will oversee a team of three analysts with dotted line responsibilities for 5-6 additional individuals across partner functions such as Promotions, Finance, Supplier Analytics, Business Trends, Operations, and Merchandising Operations.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Pricing and Profit Margin Optimization:
    • Develop and implement pricing strategies to achieve optimal long-term profit margins for the Specialty Retail Market.
    • Utilize levers such as margin setting, promotional pricing, and investment strategies to balance customer acquisition and profitability.
    • Drive specialty pricing initiatives to align with supplier and market dynamics.
  2. Strategic Planning and Forecasting:
    • Partner with the Finance team to lead profitability planning and forecasting efforts, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
    • Contribute to scenario modeling and sensitivity analyses to guide strategic decision-making.
  3. Analytics Agenda Setting and Leadership:
    • Define the key business performance problems for the SRBs and outline the analytics roadmap to support strategic decisions.
    • Establish KPIs and frameworks to facilitate progress tracking and trade-off analysis.
    • Leverage analytics to drive decisions related to catalog curation, promo strategies, supplier sourcing, and exclusivity opportunities.
  4. Cross-Functional Leadership and Collaboration:
    • Work closely with Finance, Marketing, Merchandising, and Supplier Partnerships teams to align goals and prioritize opportunities.
    • Partner with engineering and analytics teams to enhance pricing tools and systems for efficiency and accuracy.
  5. Business Performance Monitoring:
    • Collaborate with the Business Trends team to monitor overall performance, identify risks, and uncover opportunities.
    • Develop insights from pricing metrics to support continuous improvement.
  6. Team Leadership:
    • Lead and develop a high-performing team of analysts, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.
    • Set goals, provide feedback, and support professional growth within the team.

    • 10+ years in pricing, finance, or related fields with a strong record of driving profitability and leading teams.
  2. Analytical Expertise:
    • Exceptional quantitative skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
  3. Strategic Vision:
    • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills to navigate complex challenges and drive results.
  4. Leadership Skills:
    • Experience in leading and developing teams, fostering collaboration and inclusivity.
  5. Stakeholder Management:
    • Excellent communication skills and experience working across diverse teams and levels.
  6. Industry Knowledge:
    • Familiarity with e-commerce, retail, or consumer goods is a plus.
  7. Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in data analysis tools (SQL, GBQ, Excel) and experience with pricing or financial modeling tools is desirable.
