Job Title: Bindery Operator I


Position Summary:

The Bindery Operator I responds to customers’ needs for attractive printed communication materials by operating the flatbed cutter and small folder. The Bindery Operator I is an entry level position that may operate, at a minimum, 2 Bindery machines.

  • Produce a superior product to the fullest ability with the tools provided to you, including but not limited to knowledge and machinery.
  • When required, is responsible for inline packaging including, but not limited to, band wrapping and bulk packaging.
  • Performs repairs and preventative maintenance on bindery machines, including cleaning, adjusting and oiling.
  • Performs all function associated with a specific machine.
  • Observes and monitors machine operations to detect malfunctions and makes required adjustments.
  • Sets up, operates, and uses automatic and manual bindery machines.
  • Feeds and removes various printed products from machine and stacks them properly.
  • Cleans and lubricates machinery parts and makes minor repairs.
  • Examines product samples for defects.
  • Reads work order to determine work instructions.
  • Trains and directs other Bindery Operators, if needed.
  • Starts machines and makes trial runs to verify accuracy of machine setup.
  • Login to Monarch to record time and value spent on each job.
  • Responsible for ensuring that safety procedures in the plant including, but not limited to, Lock-out-tag-out, Hazard Communication, OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations. Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
  • Maintains the highest level of security and confidentiality as defined by company policy.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations, Printing & Mailing and/or President / CEO.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (G.E.D.) preferred.
  • 3-6 months printing experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as Job tickets and spread sheets.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to use a ruler to conduct basic measurements.
  • Complete all required training courses upon hire and annually thereafter.
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Exclusion from the System for Award Management (SAM) List of Excluded Individuals and Entities (LEIE) prior to hire and ongoing throughout their tenure at the company. Inclusion in the LEIE is grounds for immediate dismissal.
  • Power jacks certified (training provided).
