Director of Federal Government Relations Join to apply for the Director of Federal Government Relations role at The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research Job Title: Director of Federal Government Relations Position Summary: The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (“the Foundation”) is seeking top talent for its Director of Federal Government Relations position. This role will lead advocacy strategies to promote the Foundation's policy and funding priorities, focusing on federal appropriations. Responsibilities include securing federal investments in Parkinson’s research, engaging with Congress and agencies, and building coalitions for policy impact. The Director reports to the Interim Chief of Policy and manages a team, aligning resources with the Foundation’s goals. This position requires based in Washington D.C., with minimal travel (~1x/month to New York City) and occasional weekend work. Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Develop and execute government relations strategies to secure federal funding for Parkinson’s research Lead advocacy efforts in budget and appropriations processes, collaborating with Congressional offices and federal agencies Build and maintain relationships with policymakers and stakeholders Manage team budget, external consultants, and contracts to support policy goals Monitor legislation, regulations, and policy proposals for opportunities and risks Provide strategic leadership, mentorship, and ensure team alignment with advocacy priorities Coordinate with internal teams and partners to maximize influence Translate complex policy issues for internal and external audiences Represent the Foundation in meetings, hearings, and events before Congress and agencies Ensure compliance with lobbying and advocacy reporting requirements Qualifications and Skills: Experience in federal government affairs, with a focus on appropriations and health policy; health advocacy experience preferred Leadership experience managing teams and strategy Proven engagement with Congress, especially in appropriations and funding negotiations Knowledge of legislative/regulatory policy development in healthcare or nonprofits Strong relationships with policymakers and federal agencies Excellent communication, negotiation, and strategic skills Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment Professional approach and collaboration skills High integrity and trustworthiness Calm, professional, and solution-oriented under pressure Must be registered as a federal lobbyist under the Lobbying Disclosure Act Salary and Benefits: The salary range is $155,000 - $175,000, with benefits including medical, dental, vision insurance, 401(k) with 6% match, flexible spending accounts, life and disability insurance, paid time off, summer hours, and hybrid or remote work options.
