Job Description

The Alaka’ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) is looking for an Environmental Technician to support a customer out of Maui, Hawai'i.

Assists in the monitoring and management of environmental resources, plans and conditions by conducting field tests, inspecting accumulation points, hazmat lockers and move & prepare waste for shipping. Collect samples of soil, water, and air to detect pollution or contamination, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. Additionally, they help gather technical data for reports as well as respond to spills to stop or help mitigate any environmental damage and support environmental remediation projects.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for the facilitation of all operations and practices associated with solid waste, hazardous materials/waste, waste minimization, recycling, ensuring that the project is in compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations. Essential duties & job functions would include but are not limited to:

Operates and maintains an environmental accumulation area.
Conduct inspections and maintain the waste and hazmat storage areas.
Conducts environmental sampling and prepares the samples for shipping.
Ensure employees follow waste minimization practices and waste handling procedures at points of generation.
Preform record keeping tasks and document reports associated with environmental programs.
Participates in emergency spill response situations.
Observes and follows all safety rules and procedures, including wearing required personal safety equipment.
Perform variety of pest management applications in accordance DoDI 4150.07 and AFI 32-1053.
Maintain a safe work environment.
Mindful to meet deadlines.
Ability to write daily correspondence to the government customer.
Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
Ability to understand and follow directions.
Ability to work cooperatively and safely with others on common projects.
Ability to give training to the all-site staff on Haz Waste communications, handling, and IAP protocol.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, as well as present training to small groups of employees.
Assigned other additional duties as required.

Environmental Factors: Works in indoor and outdoor environments that contain excessive heat, cold and humidity, excessive dampness, dust, solvents grease, oils, moving object or vehicles and slippery or uneven surfaces. Routinely will be working at over 10,000ft elevation.

Physical Effort: Frequently lifts items and equipment weighing up to fifty pounds and occasionally over fifty pounds. Standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and stretching for prolonged periods will be necessary.

REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

High school diploma or equivalent.
Two (2) years’ experience as a technician in an environmental field of work.
HAZWOPER Training (40-hour). Must be obtained prior to employee starting.
Forklift.
Respirator Fit Test.
STI Tank Inspector certifications/training. Must be obtained within 3 months of employment. Training will be fully funded by the employer.
Valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Ability to use Microsoft (MS) Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and MS Teams at a proficient level.
Working knowledge of the Resource Conservation & Recovery Act (RCRA) 40 CFR.
Working knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) 49 CFR.
Working knowledge of AFI 32-7001 to 32-7003.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

U.S. Military experience preferred.
Knowledge of EESOHMIS, APIMS/STAR, MIC-T, EASIER.
USAF Pest Management QAE/IPMC Core Training Course.
WENV 101 Introduction to Environmental Management Course.
WENV 222 Hazardous Materials Management Process (HMMP) Course.
UEC training for awareness.
WENV 220 Unit Environmental Coordinator (UEC) Course.
CDL with Hazmat endorsement.

REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:

Must be a U.S. Citizen
Must have a Secret clearance. (Applicants selected either must currently possess a Secret clearance or will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements to obtain clearance prior to commencement of employment and maintain a security clearance for access to classified information or Closed/Restricted Areas throughout duration of employment.)
