Summary National Power is accepting applications to fill a Generator Service Technician opening in our Sacramento, CA market. Under the general direction of and reporting to the Service Manager, the Generator Service Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of generator sets and other electrical equipment. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Perform various types and levels of maintenance and repair on generators and parallel systems ranging from 5-5000 kW. Troubleshoot and repair Automatic Transfer Switches, including bypass isolation and closed transfer types. Perform preventative maintenance (oil, filters), troubleshoot AC and DC circuits, remove and replace components, perform warranty work per manufacturer’s guidelines, and conduct start‑up/commissioning of new generators and systems. Perform diesel or gaseous engine troubleshooting and repair including ignition components, injection systems, valve adjustments, etc. Perform load bank testing on generators to ensure units meet operating conditions and applicable code requirements. Assist other technicians with large multi‑person jobs or troubleshooting complicated issues. Education And Experience HS Diploma required; Associate degree in an electrical/mechanical related field preferred. Current Generac Power Systems certification preferred. US Air Force Electrical Power Production Specialist, US Navy Electrician’s Mate, or Generator and/or UPS field service technician preferred. Skills And Other Qualifications Excellent communication skills; able to give verbal/written reports of job status, repair recommendations, equipment/supplies needed. Track time spent on jobs and travel accurately. Excellent driving record and valid driver’s license. Requires long‑distance driving, overnight stays, and potential travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for training. Good computer skills; comfortable with Microsoft Office, internet, and PDF handling. Maintain vehicle and equipment, inventory parts, and secure company property. Handle difficult customer situations, respond promptly, solicit feedback, and meet commitments. Problem‑solving during emergencies or resource‑limited situations. Training provided; may attend courses as needed. Demonstrates accuracy, thoroughness, and continuous improvement. Work Conditions Required in various weather conditions: heat, rain, snow, high humidity. Frequent work near moving mechanical parts. Physical Demands Lifting and carrying up to 75 lbs. Ascending/descending ladders, stairs, ramps, scaffolding. Using hands/arms to seize, hold, grasp, turn. Entering text or data on computer. Moving on hands and feet to enter confined spaces. Operating controls on machinery. Clear vision required for small objects or reading small print. Sitting for long periods may be required. Compensation Competitive pay based on experience and certifications; overtime at 1.5X. Three weeks paid vacation after 90 days; pro‑rated for first year. Up to 9 paid company holidays.
