Job Description

Are you an analytical professional with a background in accounting, finance, or business management? Do you enjoy working with financial data to uncover key insights? United Public Adjusters & Appraisers, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented individual to join our expanding team. This role offers an opportunity to apply financial expertise in the insurance claims industry while helping policyholders navigate complex claims processes.

About the Role:

As an Insurance Claims Adjuster specializing in financial analysis, you will assess and quantify financial losses related to Business Interruption, Builder’s Risk, and Property Damage & Inventory Claims. You will collaborate with adjusters, legal teams, and industry consultants to analyze financial records, document losses, and help ensure fair compensation for policyholders.

Key Responsibilities:

Business Interruption/Extra Expense (BI/EE) Claims:

  • Engage with insured business owners to understand operations and financial structures.
  • Work with accountants to gather financial documents, including profit and loss statements, revenue reports, and expense records.
  • Communicate with insurance carriers to determine claim handling procedures and collaborate with internal and external financial experts.
  • Prepare business interruption claims, including detailed financial narratives, and submit advance payment requests.
  • Follow up with insurers and financial representatives to secure funds and negotiate settlements.
  • Analyze approved insurance calculations, draft rebuttal responses, and negotiate revised settlements.
  • Prepare and present supplemental claims for extended business income losses until the business returns to pre-loss revenue levels.

Additional Living Expenses (ALE) Claims:

  • Educate insured individuals on ALE claims and guide them through the documentation process.
  • Compile pre-loss expense records, including utilities and living costs, to establish a baseline for claim calculations.
  • Gather and reconcile receipts for increased living expenses, such as hotel stays, food costs, and rental accommodations.
  • Track ongoing expenses throughout the repair period and update claim submissions accordingly.

Building Claims:

  • Compare UPA’s repair estimates with insurance carrier estimates, highlighting scope and pricing differences.
  • Summarize repair expenses, invoices, and proof of payments to claim recoverable depreciation.
  • Determine if insured clients are entitled to additional depreciation funds based on final repair costs.

Personal Property Claims:

  • Organize replacement receipts and invoices to support policyholders in recovering depreciation on lost/damaged items.
  • Assist in verifying pre-loss purchase records for high-value or unique personal and business assets.
  • Support claims involving business stock, furniture, fixtures, and equipment by compiling and validating purchase documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, or a related field.
  • Experience with financial statement analysis, insurance claims, or forensic accounting is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to interpret financial data.
  • Excellent communication skills to convey financial findings to adjusters and clients.
  • Proficiency in Excel and financial modeling tools is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
