The Lionel Pincus and Princess Firyal Map Division is one of the world’s premier map collections in terms of size, scope, unique holdings, diversity and intensity of use. Established in 1898, our holdings include more than 433,000 sheet maps and 20,000 books and atlases published between the 16th and 21st centuries. The collections range from the global to the local scale and support the learning and research needs of a wide variety of users.
The Librarian II position in the Map Division provides excellent public service in the form of reference work, writing, instruction, outreach, collection description, and works with colleagues across the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building to assure an optimal experience for all visitors to the Library.Reporting to the Assistant Director - Map, Dorot Jewish, and Local History & Genealogy Divisions, the Librarian II:

Successfully demonstrated excellent public service skills and the ability to work well in a fast-paced environment. Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal effectively and tactfully with patrons and staff.
Successfully demonstrated knowledge of authoritative humanities resources. Demonstrated experience using print resources, online catalogs, electronic databases, and internet sources in reference work.
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to articulate and express ideas clearly in presentations and in writing.
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Demonstrated computer and word processing skills, including Google office products.
Please Note: Effective August 2, 2021, absent a qualifying exception for medical or religious reasons, newly hired employees of the New York Public Library must present proof of receipt of a COVID-19 vaccination and may not begin employment at the Library until 14 days after their receipt of their second dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines or 14 days after their first dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Newly hired employees who need additional time to receive their vaccination prior to their start date may request an adjournment of their start date with their hiring manager. The Library will consider such requests on a case by case basis, depending upon the Library’s operational needs, among other factors.
