Job Description

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee the administration of cultural resources project phases/tasks or manage these projects from proposal to completion.
  • Supervise and assist in field efforts, ensuring compliance with our client and their stakeholder standards, as needed by project requirements.

Key Duties

  • Spearhead the expansion and development of the cultural resources team.
  • Support the Project Manager in planning acquisitions, developing proposals, and procuring resources. This includes crafting and adjusting research designs to ensure projects stay on schedule and within budget, along with managing project financials, scope, and timelines.
  • Oversee project logistics and staffing needs.
  • Track fieldwork progress, provide timely feedback on time constraints or staffing needs, and adjust field techniques and recording methods as necessary.
  • Lead and make decisions in the field regarding crew safety, conflict resolution, and problem-solving.
  • Achieve the broader goals of the project according to research design objectives and applicable investigation standards.

Job Requirements

  • A Master’s degree and/or PhD in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • At least 5-8 years of documented field experience in archaeology, with an additional 2 years in a supervisory role (Project Archaeologist level) and project management.
  • Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal regulatory compliance for CRM, including familiarity with Section 106 of the NRHP, NEPA, ARPA, and NAGPRA. This includes field surveys, testing, mitigation, monitoring, and report writing, particularly in Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas, along with a proficient understanding of state laws.
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS software or similar GIS platforms is preferred but not required.
  • Proven ability to perform QAQC on technical reports, regulatory correspondence, and client communications accurately and effectively.
  • Demonstrated experience in communicating with regulatory agencies, clients, and landowners.
  • Preferred familiarity with prehistoric and/or historic artifact analysis, laboratory procedures, and equipment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team, taking direction from project supervisors.
  • Willingness to travel and conduct fieldwork for extended periods (typically 10-hour days), except for travel days.
  • Capability to navigate rugged terrain and conduct shovel testing at intervals up to 10 miles a day while carrying field equipment weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Experience with pipeline, utility transmission, and petrochemical exploration projects is highly preferred.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to pass a drug screening test prior to employment and maintain a drug-free lifestyle, as random drug screenings will occur at least once every 12 months in line with various client safety programs.
