Job Title: Trends Curator

Location: San Francisco, Hybrid – Office-based Tuesday to Thursday, remote Monday and Friday

Duration: 3 months

Working Hours: Standard business hours, Monday to Friday (PST time zone)

Pay rate: $49.70 per hour

About the Role

We are looking for a detail-oriented and curious Trends Curator to join a dynamic data journalism team. This role is at the heart of transforming data into compelling stories that inform and engage the public. The focus is on curating and analysing daily trends, particularly around artificial intelligence and search behaviour, and collaborating with media partners to deliver impactful, timely insights.

Key Responsibilities:

• Generate daily trend ideas and extract timely data under the direction of a Data Editor
• Collaborate with media outlets, PR teams, and internal stakeholders to respond to reactive news moments
• Create and verify datasets for newsletters and larger editorial projects
• Contribute to special journalism and visualisation projects, including interactive guides and in-house events
• Support with static data visualisations using internal tools and assist with curating content for dedicated issue pages

Skills and Experience Required:

• Experience in data journalism or related fields
• Enthusiastic about AI and its societal impact
• Confident using Excel and other basic data tools; knowledge of R is a plus
• Basic understanding of spreadsheets and data manipulation techniques
• Comfortable working flexibly, including occasional unsocial hours

Desirable Attributes:

• A passion for storytelling through data
• Ability to work independently while being a strong team player
• Experience creating visual content and working with designers is advantageous
